Professional Development2

EDSTAR Analytics, Inc. conducts up to 3.5 hour professional development (PD) sessions for principals and administratorsradial_words, instructional coaches, teachers, and school counseling staff to help them learn to make data actionable in a big-picture context. Data are shown to be an integral component of a process that includes being informed by research, knowing relevant local and state policies, and identifying high quality resources for support. Participants will understand how to interpret and use data, including EVAAS, EOG, EOC, ACT reports, and formative assessment data. Special attention is given to ensuring that participants learn how to run and use EVAAS reports.

Features

Professional Development

Rather than simply teach how to run data reports, we start with an issue and show how data is used in the context of these issues:

  • Increasing graduation rates, lowering dropouts;
  • Preparing more students to be College and Career ready;
  • Increasing the number of students prepared to pursue STEM educations and careers;
  • Raising achievement and closing gaps;
  • Preparing more students for STEM careers;
  • Using formative assessment data to move all students toward the same learning goals,
  • Implementing the ASCA National Model
  • Increasing literacy rates

All of the resources are concrete and actionable. We leave participants with resources to use in Professional Learning Communities (PLC)s.

Focus on EVAAS

If requested, the professional development will include a focus on EVAAS training, including how to run reports, and hands-on activities for running and interpreting reports.

The resources include web-apps for creating a data-driven research-based plans, documenting alignment with the NC Professional Teaching Standards, NC Guidance and Essential Standards, and ASCA National Model forms.

“After attending EDSTAR’s Data Academy and Equity Training, we now use EVAAS data to place students predicted to perform at or above 70% into 8th grade Algebra I.  We have doubled our Algebra I sections from three to six, added Geometry for 8th grade, and created a math lab to provide extra support.  Our 8th grade math proficiency is up over 20 points in just two years.  Some of our staff was skeptical at first, but they couldn’t argue with the results.”
